Self Portrait
I chose to talk about a few things that mean a lot to me and I feel describe me. I wanted to show others a little bit about me while infusing a hint of my personality. I really liked Andrew McCubbins' self portrait of him eating a banana because he took it a little bit more down a creative path. He really put a lot of effort into creating a memorable self portrait to share with our class.
I chose to use a sort of beginning, middle, and end strategy. In the beginning I framed the shot to where you could see all of the items I would eventually talk about. The middle consists of me describing the more obscure items and their place in my life. I also interject a little bit of personality- unintentionally- into this portion. In the end I put everything back in its former place and end it with a similar shot the opening shot.
The symbols I chose range from straightforward to obscure. I chose a shoe, some SD cards, a pair of headphones, the Pixar animated film UP, and some pictures of family and friends. I chose the shoe I did because shoes are a sort of hobby of mine. The SD cards represent my love for film. The headphones represent my love for music. UP is a little bit more obscure, not only is it one of my favorite movies, it also represents my belief that with animated movies you can covey emotion more clearly and easily. I showed some pictures of my family and my friends because I care a lot for the people in my life.
I hope the viewers of my self portrait learn a little bit more about me than they knew before. I believe this was a fairly easy goal so I accomplished it fairly well. My biggest challenge was coming up with a creative way to do this, I couldn't overcome that obstacle so I chose to do something more straightforward. Next time I would spend more time on thinking of a creative way to describe myself.
