Simple by Dreamer Boy- Proffesional Project Review

"Simple"- Dreamer Boy

This video is a music video for a single from his 2018 Album: Love, Nostalgia. It had a small budget and "Zach and Adam" are credited as co-directors, and "Slater" is credited with the videography.

Overall, the videography is my favorite thing from this piece. Variations in angles, compositions, and movements keep the eye entertained throughout. My favorite shot is the opening shot, a slow-motion long take of the protagonist running down a country road during the sunset. His movement side to side and the slow pull away from the subject at the end keep the shot interesting over its 30 seconds on screen. The art direction is strong, with a coordinated color palette of pastels used throughout the entire video. The editing, while well done, is forgettable.

The story was one between to people in a relationship. The story was fine it was not anything groundbreaking. The story definitely took a back seat so the performances both singers could shine. A few interesting two shots here and there kept the story in our minds, however.

The consistency in color across the entire video is very pleasing to look at. I think color is underutilized and often overlooked in my own work. I will begin to plan around color more often in the future.

There are a couple of jump cuts in the video-one being a match-that were very jarring. This was definitely the weakest aspect of the video itself.

In conclusion, I think this video is very strong and had talented people working on it-especially behind the camera.
